Party Before Country

Gregg’s sudden inability to deal with the realities of serving in an Obama Administration have nothing to do with the census issue or even the stimulus package itself. No, the withdrawal that “blind-sided” Obama yesterday came from the arrogance and stupidity of the Republican party and their willingness to put their own political identity crisis ahead of what’s good for the country.

We’re Huge In Germany

Another week of Battlestar Galactica and so I’m please to present another episode of The Sci-Fi Cast for your enjoyment. This time around Jen, Dave and I discuss the week’s sci-fi news and of course episode 15 of BSG, The Oath. Along the way we learn Jen’s theory of how the new Star Trek movie relates to Muppet Babies, hear a pretty decent Adama impersonation from yours truly and vie for the love and affection of irony loving Germans everywhere.

Oh My!

We’re back in the space saddle again this week with another installment of The Sci-Fi Cast. This time around we discuss the latest episode of Battlestar Galactica – “Sometimes A Great Notion” with Dave, Jen and a very special guest, my friend from the Iconfactory, Corey Marion. We discuss BSG, the latest sci-fi celebrities to […]

Our Long, National Nightmare Is Over

He entered office in a storm of controversy, taking the White House thanks to the Supreme Court’s willingness to stop counting votes. He and his administration ignored the danger signs Bin Laden and Al qaeda were sending for almost a year, until it was far too late. From that fateful day in Sepetember of 2001, the Bush Administration took only a single seed, terror, and used it to twist and pervert much of what has made this country great.

Things I Learned at Macworld

Unlike most of the people I follow on Twitter, Macworld 2009 was my first expo in many years, and the only one where I’ve been one of the exhibitors. The week was fun, exciting and a lot of work. Now that I’m back home in Greensboro, I thought I’d impart some of the knowledge I gained during my experience. In no particular order, here are a few of the many things I took away from my trip to Macworld 2009:

Lucas’ Loose Threads

If there was a bright spot regarding the Star Wars prequels, it was the opportunity for fans to get answers to many of the questions Lucas introduced in episodes IV, V and VI. Although I freely admit I’m far more of a Trekkie than a Star Wars geek, there are still questions that none of the six movies answered to my satisfaction. Here are just a few.

GOP Jerkwads

You’d think that after the pasting they received in November, the GOP would be busy figuring out why they are so out of touch with the American people. Of course, you’d be wrong. Witness the arrogant and bigoted tone of one RNC Chair candidate, Chip Saltsman.

Switching Hats

If you care as much about icons and design as I do, then you’re probably asking yourself how I could allow a “for sale” badge to get plastered on Frenzic’s app icon like the ones I previously railed against. At first I couldn’t figure it out myself, and then it became very simple. I took off my “designer hat” and put on my other one… the one that says “business owner”.

Bare Bones Trek: TOS

People have been asking me for an “essentials” guide to Star Trek. Given the fact that my friend Louie is attempting to catch up on Star Trek before the big movie hits next spring, I thought it might be best to start at the beginning with Star Trek: The Original Series. Warp speed ahead!

The Vatican Goes Green

In a wonderful example of leading by example, the Catholic Church this past week took its first steps into the foray of “green power” with the activation of a new solar energy system. The massive grid of 2,400 photovoltaic panels will save 80 tons of oil per year, or 225 tons of CO2. If a conservative organization such as the Catholic Church can spearhead protection and education of the environment, then perhaps the right can take its first steps to realizing that climate change isn’t a liberal or a progressive issue. It effects us all and we need to start dealing with it.

Why Icons Matter

I can’t tell you how many times that a client considered their icons to be an after thought. At the Iconfactory, we try and educate clients about the importance of icons and how they strengthen a brand. So when it comes to designing our icons for our own software products, we almost always end up obsessing over them. This time around, the drama was caused by the new icon for Frenzic for the iPhone.

I’m Not Listening! La-la-la-la!

As the days count down to continuation of season 4 of Battlestar Galactica, I find myself more and more assaulted by series teasers and spoilers. For now the effects are manageable. If this keeps up however, even I won’t be able to avoid learning far more than I wanted to know about who the final Cylon might be, what the deal is with that planet they found and which characters might not live to see journey’s end.
