Aqua – Back to the 80’s
I’ve always loved Aqua ever since I first heard Barbie Girl, and now they’ve returned with the video premiere of their new hit – Back to the 80’s. Granted this tune is aimed square at Generation Xers like myself, but its still a great song. The beat is catchy and the lyrics are full of pop culture references like the Commodore 64, Banannarama and Moon Boots. Bravo Aqua, bravo!
I liked Barbie Girl, not really my kind of music, but for what it was, it was good — but this one? Uh, it sucks.
You don’t know what you’re talking about, Mr. Grumpy Pants!
It’s Dr. Grumpy Pants!
Oh, and it just occurred to me that the Aqua song I really liked was not “Barbie Girl,” but “Happy Boys and Girls.” See? Even Dr. Grumpy Pants can appreciate the vacuous.
I like Aqua, and this song’s pretty good. As far as ’80s tributes go, I like them a little less direct, i.e., give me a tribute, but do it in a way where you don’t have to actually -tell- me it’s a tribute. The band Stefy does a great job with this, and so has Katy Perry on occasion.
