R, your point is well taken. I don't happen to agree with it, but I respect it.

When a man makes over $270 million dollars to hit a small ball with a wooden stick, flaunts the rules of the game when it suits his whims, and cheats on his wife in full public view, then people tend not to think highly of him. If facing some minor humiliation at the hands of some fans makes him think twice about breaking his wedding vows (or just makes him grow up) then I say, more power to them.

I don't know anything about A-Rod personally, but I do know that in general taunting someone publicly about something painful and embarrassing in their private life is ... well, it's pretty unsportsmanlike. It's also crude and lame. Now if he were some sort of pontiff or politician, emitting proscriptions and running around moralizing, I could see how he might be "asking for it." And again, since I don't know anything about him, maybe he does run around passing judgment in public, saying things that will come back to haunt him; but barring that, just because he's a celebrity doesn't automatically make it okay to be completely ungracious toward him at what is essentially his place of work. You don't lose your right to expect basic human courtesy just because you're paid a lot of money or enjoy a certain profile of lifestyle. And whatever his role in the dissolution of his marriage is, no one knows the intimate circumstances and sequence of events that led to that breakdown. What I see in this picture is a trio of bullying, tabloid-reading jock jerks, smug in the certainty that they can harass this man in public because he's under too much scrutiny to respond to their fratboy antics.
