Tina, there's a sign on Panizzo's door which says a new bakery is coming soon. I think this is the "remodeling" the owners were talking about, but it does sound like the cafe portion of the eatery is going to die. What a pity, they really did have good lunch food.

I happen to agree with you though, that location is a death sentence for restaurants.

I am devastated that Panizzo's closed. They had such wonderful food and wonderful people. I am beginning to think that location is cursed.

Panizzo's has closed.

As for good Chinese, I recommend Full Kee Restaurant (3793-145 Samet Drive, High Point; 841-1895). It's a white linen and fine sake kind of experience. The owner/chef, George Yu, owned a popular Chinese restaurant on Capitol Hill in D.C. for years.

I was saddened to see the Imperial Gourmet website gone. Upon searching, I found your information. Thanks so much for posting. I am completely crushed by the news of Imperial Gourmet closing! We live in Ohio, and plan our trips so we can stop there for lunch on the way to the beach (guess we don't have to leave at 5 AM anymore!), and for dinner on our way home! It was the best Chinese place in 4 states! It will be sadly missed. A great many memories were made there. Thanks for posting on such a great topic.

Villa Italian, the nearby take-out pizza place, closed when it was announced that its home in the Food Lion shopping center on Lawndale was to be torn down to make way for the new Fresh Market location. I pleaded with owner Sonny to re-open near by. He was ambivalent. This weekend though, I saw a sign in one of the spaces next to the new Fresh Market: "Villa Italian, coming soon." Yeah! If this is Sonny's place re-borne, I'll be very happy.
