No Sign of “Stimulus” Check Yet

It’s now May 25th, and every day I peek at my bank account online in the hopes that my fabled tax stimulus check will magically appear so I can pay for gas. Since my social security number ends in the 00-20 range, it was supposed to have been deposited electronically starting the week of May 2nd, but so far no luck. No problem I say, maybe I’m getting a physical check instead of direct deposit. Well, if that was the case, it would have been mailed out by May 16th which was over a week ago. Unless it fell between the seats of my mail carrier’s car, it hasn’t shown up in my mailbox either.

So my question is, has anyone actually received their stimulus check yet? No one I know has. Have you? I’m sure we can chalk this one up to government inefficiency, but still. They’ll probably go out 2-3 months after when Bush said they would. Typical.

UPDATE: You gotta love the Internet. Head to howispentmystimuluscheck.com and tell the story of how you spent your rebate (with photos!). Seems like paying off debt tops the list so far, so much for stimulating the ‘ol economy George!

UPDATE II: Just got a letter from the IRS yesterday (Tuesday, June 10th) saying I’ll receive our check by the 13th. Of course if I don’t get it within 6 weeks, I’m to contact them. I’ve heard that once you get this letter, the check follows soon after, so I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. We’ll see.

UPDATE III: Finally received our stimulus check in the mail today, June 16th, 2008. Only came one month late, so that’s not bad for the government I guess. Glad I’m not a disaster victim or something.

  1. Our stimulus check was direct deposited on May 9th. We e-filed our taxes, and my SSN begins with a zero. I haven’t heard of anyone else getting their check yet.

  2. No check yet, but I think my wife has claimed my half. Which made me wonder if any other married couples have discussed at least how they will use the money? Or hopefully, how can they get their half back from the bill payer to help properly stimulate the economy (ie spend it.) The friends I have spoken with can’t use it for anything but bills, and with gas prices as they are, things are getting scary.

  3. Mine was direct deposited on the 16th. I mailed in my taxes, but asked for a direct deposit, and the last two digits of my SSN are at the very end of the range, so I imagine that you really should have received yours by now…

  4. Yep. We got our check around two weeks ago. It was the wrong amount because they left off our qualifying child who was born last October. It took me nearly two weeks to get through to someone at the IRS using the number they provided in the letter sent before the checks were issued. This person immediately told me my child didn’t qualify. No explanations but that he just didn’t. When I questioned this response further, I was put on hold for nearly five minutes while she researched the problem. When she finally got back on, I was told another check would be issued for the missing amount. So, now another check is on it’s way and I’ll be able to buy another $300 worth of gas.

  5. Got mine in early May!

Was deposited directly into my savings account; the same place my refund was sent.

Might have something to do with the fact that I filed my taxes in February and E-Filed.

My SS number is in the high range, so go figure!

Thank you Curious George, money is going to simulate my credit card balance!

  6. Donated $100 of it to Barack Obama! Looking to buy a new grill as well 🙂

We already bought our Wii, but before that I joked that one of the girls was worth a Wii!

  7. I e-filed my taxes with direct deposit, and was in the first # range for refunds. Got it promptly on the day it was issued (the 1st? I can’t remember.)

My best friend moved to Wales last year, but since she worked some of the year here, she received a refund. She blew it on a plane ticket to spend the weekend with me, and I blew mine on our weekend. Spent it on tattoos, dinners, drinks… pretty much everything it went to was anti-conservative and borderline-heathen.

    Thanks Dubya!

  8. From all of your comments, it really sounds like I should have received mine by now. I guess I’ll have to have my accountant contact the IRS this week. That’s just great.
