I believe most non-technophiles don't care as much about "great graphics" of the PS3 or XBOX 360 as they do about the social aspects of the Wii. Case in point, it really didn't matter to my Mom that there was a difference between HD channels and regular TV channels when my parents got that option. Nintendo’s bet to tap the casual gamer market is definitely paying dividends for them. The problem with Thurrott was that he didn't couldn't get past the fact that the Wii's graphics didn't measure up to the XBOX or the PS3. As any arcade junkie can tell you, it's not the eye candy that keeps you coming back, it's how fun the game is. The Wii has this in spades, from Wii Sports to Zelda and now Super Mario Galaxy. Thurrott and others who dismissed Nintendo's platform because of the perception that it was "just for kids" need to take a second look. The most important thing is to play fun games and that's one thing the console competition doesn't help. Gamers have to choose a console "team" before they can get the games and it's no small investment. I wish more games were cross-console and not exclusive. Even so, I'm not going to buy a PS3 or an XBox 360 just to play a few games that look and have been reviewed to be excellent. I'll stick with my Wii, a bit of Mario and Zelda, and enjoy. I just want to play fun games which all 3 platforms have (though I probably would have bought a Wii when I got my XBox, if I could find one).
