Big Heroes fan here & really looking forward to the 3rd season.

I'm in the UK & we don't get them until a few months after you guys in the US. I can't wait that long!

Luckily I've been able to get them the day after they air in the US with the aid of (to coin your phrase) a 'bit of a torrent' :p

Jiffy,

All good points. And I hope I have not made it so you can't enjoy season 2 if you find it to your liking. You really will have to let me know though, I'm very interested to see if your opinion of the season gels with mine.

I'm REALLY tempted to let the TiVO grab the season 3 episodes over say, 5 or 6 weeks and then just watch them all at one time, like DVDs. I'd have to avoid commercials and blog posts about season 3 though for that to work, so I'm not sure that'll happen.

Should be interesting. At least Kring knows what went wrong in season 2, so we'll have to see if he takes it all to heart or not.

Ged, I've just finished watching all of Heroes Season 1 on the Netflix instant queue. It took about four days to complete. Overall, I was compelled by the characters and their development, though I feel many of them suffered the fate of just too much to say in too little time. With a slightly smaller cast, the creators could have really put some time and detail into the relationships and been a little more complete in their development.

I agree with David that the "days of future past" style episode was really the best and a true peak for the season arc. For me, the final episode was more of an epilogue and a denouement than a whiz-bang fireworks finale. That said, I was disappointed with the Sylar/Peter face-off and the lack of teamwork building between the characters. They worked all this time to come together in this place, at this time, and did NOT develop a way to work together to overcome this nightmare they all shared for so long? C'mon! I wasn't expecting an X-men style team, but at least banding together to overcome Sylar would have been more interesting than just punching a guy in the mouth, then stabbing him, then flying off to explode.

Okay, rant over.

Now I'm taking a real risk and read this WHOLE blog AND all the comments BEFORE watching one scene of Season 2. The whole thing is waiting in my instant queue for viewing as soon as I can dedicate some time to it. Even with all the spoilers I've digested here in the comments, I've also seen some glimmers of hope. I'll take it all with a grain of salt, knowing how a writer's strike can affect any show, no matter how established or well-created.

Here's to hoping I survive to perhaps view Season 3.

Oh, and another thing. I think choosing to view something all-at-once on DVD or via instant streaming is simply that...a choice. Just because someone chooses to torture themselves and watch a show every week, waiting for new episodes one at a time, suffering through blaring commercials and annoying interruptions, does not make that person better, smarter or superior because they made that choice. I think it's just a personal preference. I gave up on broadcast/cable TV back when Firefly, Wonderfalls and Freeks 'n Geeks were canceled. I've got better things to invest my emotions in than discovering whether my personal tastes are shared by enough Nielson families. I'm pretty sure they are not and I don't need further convincing.

Okay, second rant over. Thanks for posting this, Ged, and keep up the great work! See you on Twitter!

Geoff,

Kring gets the premier to prove to me the show is back on track. If I'm not really, and I mean *really* wowed in those first three hours, Heroes will be off my TiVO for good. I really want it to succeed and I think it can, but the creative team needs to step up and do it quick. None of this "building things up for 6 or 7 episodes" crap from season 2.

Just my opinion of course. :-)

Alright a topic we can discuss without anyone fuming!

The second season of Heroes really took a hard hit by the strike. Even before the strike everyone knew it was coming, which I believe did affect the pre-strike episodes. And the last few episodes definitely got screwed. I'm not going to hold last season against any show, especially one of my faces like Heroes.

Ged,

I absolutely agree with you 100% Though I have to admidt this weeks (11/12/07) episode was the best of this season and even felt like it might be getting better. They should have actually started season two with "four months later". That was a major boo boo on their part.

Ugggh, they had to retool the season finale AND they're looking to "reboot" for season 3. No thanks to a reboot.

@ Oea520 --

Entertainingly enough, Kring just said the same thing I did :)

About the Hiro storyline: "should have [lasted] three episodes. We didn't give the audience enough story to justify the time we allotted it.''

The issue with pacing it's that it worked perfectly with the first season as we were being introduced to the "world" of Heroes, its characters, and the challenges they faced. When the second season came along, it tried to do much the same thing -- but the audience was already aquainted with that world. We didn't need to re-learn the rules, what the characters can do, and so on. Kring and the writers had the opportunity to jump into the story much sooner and still introduce new characters and situations as they saw fit, but chose a different route (which has been discussed ad nauseam here).

"At long last the writers have finally pulled together some of the plot threads, but I do wonder if it’s far too late at this point. They certainly shouldn’t have waited until episode 7 — much of this should have taken place by episode 3 or 4 in order to maintain a decent pace (and they probably would have lost fewer viewers that way as well)."

Did you watch the first season?????????????

I mean we didn't actually SEE Sylar until like ep 8 man... relax
