It’s Just Another Shooter People!

You’d think with amount of mind-numbing hype coming from Redmond these last few weeks that Halo 3 was the second coming of the video game industry. But then you’d be wrong, that was called the Wii. So unless Bungie has been keeping a really big secret, Halo 3 is just another first person shooter. Am I wrong? Can someone please tell me why Halo 3 is such a big deal?

I get the fact that Halo 3 is probably the most popular thing that Microsoft has ever “embraced”, which is sad in its own right, but do I have to have the Master Chief stuffed up my ass every minute of every day? This must be what it was like for all of those people who were sick of hearing about the iPhone in the weeks leading up to the launch. I guess one man’s plague is another man’s present. Go figure.

  1. At least Halo was originally destined for our beloved Mac platform before M$ purchased Bungie! However, I’m far more excited about playing Super Mario Galaxy this holiday season! 🙂

  2. I’m really excited to play the campaign co-operatively online with my friends in Seattle, New Orleans, and Louisville. And I prolly played more Halo 2 multiplayer than any other video game. I don’t know if I could call Halo 2 my favorite game of all time, but it was damn fun to play the multiplayer until I got tired of the racists and homophobes.

I’m in the middle of Metroid Prime 3, but will probably have to put it down for a little while to play Halo 3.

  3. Greg, I guess I’ll just have to run out and buy it then! God knows I didn’t get enough when it was called Marathon or Castle Wolfenstein or Doom or Quake or Decent or Duke Nuke ’em or Golden Eye or Counter-Strike or Half Life or Metroid Prime or…

    Well, you get the idea.

I think at the time of their release, all of these were considered “THE” shooter.

I think this is a better explanation of why Halo is so important. In the future, not owning Halo will be a crime punishable by imprisonment. Makes perfect sense to me. All hail our Spartan overlords!

Well they have all been the newest game in the genre but Halo’s gameplay hasn’t really been matched by any other. Yet.

  5. Dear Lord, everywhere I go this “Greg” character is preaching the Halo gospel. Let it go already! Ged is right – and I’m doubly impressed that he cited Marathon and Golden Eye in his list.
